Poriinit

Poriinit is a rarely attested demonym that appears in some historical or dialectal Finnish texts to denote inhabitants of Pori, a city in Finland’s Satakunta region. In everyday use, the city’s residents are called porilaiset. The form poriinit is not standard in modern Finnish and is largely confined to linguistic discussion or older literature.

Etymology and usage notes indicate that poriinit is formed from the city name Pori with the suffix -init, a pattern found in a limited set of dialectal or archaic Finnish forms used to name groups or ethnonyms. Because it is not part of contemporary orthography or common speech, poriinit is considered obsolete or regional in character.

In contemporary references, most writers opt for porilaiset or straightforward descriptive phrases such as asukkaat Porissa or porilaisen väestö when referring to the people of Pori. Poriinit may nonetheless appear in discussions of Finnish dialects, historical texts, or folklore where older language forms are preserved or represented.
