Ponemmo
Ponemmo is the passato remoto, the first-person plural form of the Italian verb porre, meaning "we placed" or "we set." It is used in literary or historical writing to denote a completed action in the distant past. The form is irregular in this tense because the noi form uses ponemmo and the stem shifts to pon- from porre. The other forms in the passato remoto of porre are: io posi, tu ponesti, lui/lei pose, noi ponemmo, voi poneste, loro posero.
In contemporary Italian, the passato remoto is largely reserved for formal writing and narrative prose; in
Noi ponemmo le sedie sul prato. (We set the chairs on the lawn.)
Quando arrivammo, ponemmo la tenda all’ingresso. (When we arrived, we set up the tent at the entrance.)
