Polynitrile

Polynitrile is a type of synthetic polymer that belongs to the family of nitrile polymers. These polymers are characterized by the presence of nitrile groups (-CN) in their molecular structure. The most well-known polynitrile is polyacrylonitrile (PAN), which is widely used in the production of acrylic fibers and carbon fibers. PAN is synthesized through the polymerization of acrylonitrile, a monomer that contains a nitrile group.

Polynitriles are valued for their excellent thermal and chemical resistance, as well as their high strength and stiffness. These properties make them suitable for a variety of applications, including high-performance textiles, carbon fibers for composite materials, and membranes for filtration and separation processes. In addition to polyacrylonitrile, other polynitriles include polybutadienitrile and polymethylmethacrylate, although these are less common compared to PAN.
