Polomer

Polomer is the term used in Slovak (and in related contexts) to denote the radius of a circle or sphere. In Czech, the equivalent term is poloměr. In English-language mathematics, the standard term is radius. The polomer is the distance from the center of a circle or sphere to any point on its boundary and is usually labeled by r.

In planar geometry, for a circle with center at (h, k), any point (x, y) on the circle satisfies (x − h)^2 + (y − k)^2 = r^2, where r is the polomer. For a sphere with center at (h, k, l), any boundary point (x, y, z) satisfies (x − h)^2 + (y − k)^2 + (z − l)^2 = r^2. The radius is a fundamental measure of size and shape, independent of orientation.

The polomer relates to other dimensions in standard ways: the diameter d is twice the polomer (d = 2r). The circumference of a circle is C = 2πr, and the surface area of a sphere is A = 4πr^2. Radius is measured in the same units as distance, such as meters or centimeters, and can describe both geometric figures and physical objects.

Example: A circle centered at (0, 0) passing through (3, 0) has polomer r = 3. The term highlights the same geometric concept across languages, with spelling differences reflecting linguistic conventions.
