Pokéwalker
The Pokéwalker is a pedometer-like device bundled with the Nintendo DS game Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. It allows players to transfer a single Pokémon from their game into the device. The Pokéwalker functions by counting the player's steps. As the player walks, the Pokémon within the Pokéwalker gains Watts, which are a form of in-game currency. Watts can be used in the Pokéwalker to play minigames and potentially find wild Pokémon or items. These wild Pokémon and items can then be transferred back to the main game. The type and rarity of Pokémon and items found in the Pokéwalker depend on the specific Pokémon transferred into it and the number of steps taken. If a player walks enough steps, their Pokémon can also gain experience points and occasionally learn new moves. The Pokéwalker is powered by a CR2032 coin battery and communicates wirelessly with the Nintendo DS through infrared technology. It was a novel way to integrate physical activity with the Pokémon video game experience, encouraging players to be more active.
