Pistokes

Pistokes, also known as piston strokes, refer to the individual movements of a piston within a cylinder of an internal combustion engine. These strokes are fundamental to the operation of the engine and are categorized into four distinct phases: intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust. Each stroke plays a crucial role in the engine's overall function, converting the energy from fuel combustion into mechanical work.

The intake stroke begins when the intake valve opens, allowing a mixture of air and fuel to enter the cylinder. This mixture is then compressed during the compression stroke, which occurs when both the intake and exhaust valves are closed. The compression increases the pressure and temperature of the air-fuel mixture, facilitating efficient combustion.

The combustion stroke is initiated by the spark plug igniting the compressed air-fuel mixture. This ignition causes a rapid expansion of the gases, pushing the piston down the cylinder. The force generated by this expansion is transferred to the crankshaft, producing mechanical work. Finally, the exhaust stroke occurs when the exhaust valve opens, allowing the spent gases to be expelled from the cylinder, preparing the engine for the next cycle of strokes. The sequence of these strokes is repeated continuously in a four-stroke engine, ensuring the engine's operation.
