Perxiszómákból

Perxiszómákból is a Hungarian term referring to peroxisomes, which are membrane-bound organelles found in eukaryotic cells. These organelles are crucial for a variety of metabolic processes. Their primary functions include breaking down fatty acids through beta-oxidation and detoxifying harmful substances, such as alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. Peroxisomes are particularly important in liver and kidney cells due to their significant role in detoxification.

The enzymes responsible for these functions are contained within the peroxisome's single membrane. One of the key enzymes is catalase, which converts toxic hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. The biogenesis of peroxisomes is a complex process that involves the import of proteins synthesized in the cytoplasm and the growth and division of existing peroxisomes. Research has shown that defects in peroxisomal function can lead to a range of serious genetic disorders, collectively known as peroxisomal biogenesis disorders, which can affect neurological development and other vital functions.
