Papillaarikudokset, also known as papillary tissues, are specialized structures found in various biological contexts, most notably in the urinary system. In the kidneys, they refer to the projections of the renal papilla, which are the tips of the renal pyramids. These papillae are covered by urothelium and contain collecting ducts that drain urine into the renal pelvis. The surface of the papilla is characterized by numerous small openings, the foramina of Bellini, through which urine exits the nephrons.
