Panchromaatinen

Panchromaatinen is a Dutch term used to describe a property or material that responds to the entire visible spectrum of light. The word is formed from pan- meaning “all” and chroma meaning “color,” with a suffix that makes it an adjectival form. It is related to the term panchromatic and is used primarily in technical contexts.

In optics and photography, panchromaatinen materials or detectors are sensitive to blue, green, and red wavelengths, yielding color-rendering that does not bias toward a specific portion of the spectrum. Panchromatic film, for example, was developed to record the full range of visible light more faithfully than earlier orthochromatic emulsions, which were less responsive to red light and tended to render skies and foliage with a blue-green bias.
