Pagasaios

Pagasaios is a term in ancient Greek that denotes something or someone from Pagasae, an ancient port town in Magnesia, Thessaly. The form Pagasaios serves as a demonym for inhabitants of Pagasae and as an adjective meaning “of Pagasae.” In classical sources the word appears in inscriptions and literature to identify people born in or associated with the city and, by extension, to highlight regional identity within Magnesia.

Pagasae stood on the eastern coast of Thessaly, at the mouth of the Pagasaean Gulf, near the area of modern Volos. It was a maritime center in the ancient Greek world and is connected in myth and travel literature with the broader network of ports in the Pagasaean region; the wider Magnesia–Mount Pelion axis was central to trade and sea routes in antiquity.
