Olajegyenérték

Olajegyenérték, often translated as "oil equivalent" or "oil equivalent value," is a unit used to express the energy content of different energy sources in terms of the energy contained in a standard amount of crude oil. This allows for the comparison of diverse energy commodities such as natural gas, coal, or renewable energy sources, and their associated economic values. The most common reference is the oil equivalent barrel (oeb) or ton of oil equivalent (toe).

The conversion factor from a specific energy source to its oil equivalent is typically based on the average energy density of crude oil. For example, one barrel of crude oil contains approximately 5.8 million British thermal units (Btu). Therefore, if another energy source, such as natural gas, has an energy content of 5.8 million Btu per unit of volume or mass, it would be considered equivalent to one barrel of oil. These conversion factors can vary slightly depending on regional standards and the specific type of crude oil used as a benchmark.
