Nógrád

Nógrád is a county (megye) in northern Hungary, part of the Northern Hungary Statistical Region. It borders Slovakia to the north and touches Pest County to the southwest, Heves County to the south, and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County to the east. The Ipoly river forms the northern boundary with Slovakia, while the county’s interior is dominated by the Börzsöny and Cserhát mountain ranges, with foothills and valleys shaping the landscape. Forests and small towns characterize much of the terrain, and portions of protected landscapes lie within its borders, including areas associated with Börzsöny National Park.
