Närvipõimikut, also known as a nerve plexus, is a network of intersecting nerves. These plexuses are formed by the anterior rami of spinal nerves. They play a crucial role in the peripheral nervous system by organizing and distributing nerve fibers that innervate specific body regions.

The most prominent nerve plexuses in the human body are the cervical plexus, brachial plexus, lumbar plexus, and sacral plexus. The cervical plexus, located in the neck, serves the muscles and skin of the neck, shoulders, and part of the head. The brachial plexus, situated in the shoulder region, is responsible for innervating the upper limbs, including the arms, forearms, and hands. The lumbar plexus, found in the lower back, supplies nerves to the anterior and medial parts of the thigh and leg. Finally, the sacral plexus, located in the pelvis, innervates the posterior thigh, leg, and foot, as well as pelvic organs.

These plexuses are essential for coordinated movement and sensation. They allow for efficient routing of motor and sensory signals, ensuring that the correct muscles are activated and that sensory information from various parts of the body reaches the central nervous system. Damage to a nerve plexus can result in significant motor and sensory deficits in the areas it serves, leading to paralysis, weakness, or loss of sensation. Understanding the anatomy and function of nerve plexuses is vital in diagnosing and treating neurological conditions affecting the limbs and trunk.
