Näköshermosolut

Näköshermosolut, also known as retinal ganglion cells, are the output neurons of the vertebrate retina. They receive visual information from photoreceptors (rods and cones) indirectly through bipolar cells and amacrine cells. These cells are crucial for transmitting visual signals from the eye to the brain.

There are many different types of näköshermosolut, each with specialized receptive fields and response properties. Some are sensitive to light intensity, others to color, and some to motion. These diverse cell types allow the retina to process complex visual information before it even reaches the brain.

The axons of näköshermosolut bundle together to form the optic nerve, which exits the eye at the optic disc and travels to various visual processing centers in the brain, including the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) in the thalamus and the superior colliculus. From these areas, the information is further relayed to the visual cortex for conscious perception of vision.
