Nykyisiin

Nykyisiin is a Finnish illative plural form of the adjective nykyinen, meaning current or present. It is used with plural nouns to express movement toward or into something described as current, or to refer to aspects that are current in nature. In Finnish, adjectives agree with the nouns they modify in number and case, so nykyinen changes its ending to match the illative plural.

The illative plural ending -isiin marks direction toward a plural noun in the illative case. Therefore, nykyisiin governs plural nouns such as sääntöihin, käytäntöihin, or ratkaisuihin, yielding phrases like current rules (nykyisiin sääntöihin) or current practices (nykyisiin käytäntöihin).

Usage notes:

- Nykyisiin is used when the reference noun is plural and the sense requires “to the current ones” or “into the current ones.”

- It contrasts with singular forms like nykyiseen (to the current one) and with other cases of nykyinen, such as nykyiset (nominative plural) or nykyisin (the adverbial or essive context in other constructions).
