NorðurAtlantshaf is the Icelandic name for the North Atlantic Ocean. It is the second-largest of the Earth's five oceanic divisions, and is bounded by the North American continent to the west, Europe and Africa to the east, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the Southern Ocean to the south. The North Atlantic Ocean is a vital part of the global ocean conveyor belt, a continuous system of deep ocean currents that circulates water around the planet. This circulation plays a significant role in regulating global climate by transporting heat from the tropics towards the poles.
The North Atlantic is characterized by significant weather systems, including hurricanes and tropical storms that often
