Nonüülfenool
Nonüülfenool is a synthetic organic chemical belonging to the alkylphenol class. It is produced by the alkylation of phenol with nonene. Nonüülfenool exists as a mixture of isomers, with the branched nonyl group attached at various positions on the phenol ring. It is a colorless to pale yellow viscous liquid or solid, depending on the specific isomer and temperature. Its primary use has been as an intermediate in the production of nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), which are non-ionic surfactants. These surfactants are found in a wide range of industrial and household products, including detergents, emulsifiers, wetting agents, and dispersants. Nonüülfenool and its derivatives are considered endocrine disruptors, meaning they can interfere with the hormone systems of living organisms. Due to environmental concerns, their use has been restricted or banned in many regions. They can persist in the environment and bioaccumulate in aquatic organisms.
