Nichtimmun

Nichtimmun is a German term that translates to "non-immune" in English. It refers to a state where an individual does not possess immunity to a specific disease or pathogen. This lack of immunity means that if exposed to the disease-causing agent, the person is susceptible to infection and the subsequent development of the illness.

Non-immune status can arise for several reasons. It might be a natural state for individuals who have never been exposed to a particular pathogen or have not been vaccinated against it. For example, a person born without prior exposure to the measles virus is non-immune to measles. Similarly, infants are typically born non-immune to many diseases and rely on maternal antibodies for a limited period.

The concept of non-immunity is crucial in public health and medicine. Understanding who is non-immune to a disease helps in implementing targeted prevention strategies, such as vaccination campaigns, to protect vulnerable populations.
