Nederrijn
The Nederrijn is a major Dutch river, a distributary of the Rhine. It forms the central part of the Rhine-Meuse delta, branching off from the Waal at Pannerden. The Nederrijn flows westwards through the provinces of Gelderland and Utrecht. It is an important waterway for both shipping and recreation. Historically, the Nederrijn was considered the main course of the Rhine, but shifts in its course and the development of other branches, particularly the Waal, have altered this perception. Its name, meaning "Lower Rhine," distinguishes it from the Bovenrijn, or "Upper Rhine."
The river's flow is regulated by a system of weirs and sluices, particularly the complex at Driel,
