Nötralizasyon

Nötralizasyon is a chemical process where an acid and a base react with each other. This reaction typically results in the formation of a salt and water. The fundamental principle behind nötralizasyon is the interaction of hydrogen ions (H+) from the acid and hydroxide ions (OH-) from the base. When these ions combine, they form water (H2O), a neutral substance. The remaining ions from the acid and the base combine to form the salt.

The extent of nötralizasyon can be monitored using indicators, which are substances that change color at specific pH levels. For example, litmus paper turns red in acidic conditions, blue in basic conditions, and purple when the solution is neutral. Titration is a common laboratory technique used to determine the exact concentration of an acid or a base by performing a controlled nötralizasyon reaction with a solution of known concentration.

Nötralizasyon has various practical applications. In industry, it is used in wastewater treatment to adjust the pH of effluents before they are released into the environment. In medicine, antacids are used to nötralize excess stomach acid, relieving heartburn and indigestion. Even in everyday life, baking soda (a base) is used to nötralize the acidity of spills like vinegar or lemon juice.
