Näidisvorming

Näidisvorming, also known as specimen preparation, is the process of preparing biological samples for examination or analysis. This technique is fundamental in various scientific disciplines, including microbiology, histopathology, and forensic science. The primary goal of näidisvorming is to enhance the visibility and preservation of the sample's features, ensuring accurate and reliable results.

The process typically begins with the collection of the sample, which may be a tissue biopsy, blood sample, or other biological material. The sample is then fixed using chemicals such as formaldehyde or ethanol to preserve its structure and prevent decomposition. This step is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the sample for future analysis.

Following fixation, the sample undergoes embedding, where it is surrounded by a protective medium, such as paraffin wax or epoxy resin. This embedding process helps to stabilize the sample and facilitate sectioning. The embedded sample is then cut into thin sections using a microtome, a device that produces extremely thin slices of tissue.

The sections are subsequently stained to highlight specific structures or components within the sample. Common staining techniques include hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, which provides a general overview of tissue morphology, and special stains such as periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) or silver stains, which target specific substances like glycogen or silver.
