Muundumisvõimalused

Muundumisvõimalused (MV) is a concept in Estonian law that allows individuals to change their first name, surname, or both, provided they meet certain criteria. The primary purpose of MV is to enable individuals to correct errors in their birth certificates or to change their names for personal reasons.

To qualify for MV, an individual must be at least 18 years old and must have lived in Estonia for at least five years. Additionally, the individual must provide a valid reason for the name change, such as an error in the birth certificate, a change in marital status, or a desire to adopt a new name for personal reasons.

The process of applying for MV involves submitting an application to the local municipality where the individual resides. The application must include the individual's current name, the desired new name, and the reason for the change. The municipality will then review the application and, if approved, will issue a decision allowing the individual to change their name.

Once the decision is issued, the individual must notify the relevant authorities, such as the police and the tax office, of the name change. The individual must also update their identification documents, such as their ID card or passport, to reflect the new name.

MV is a relatively straightforward process, but it is important for individuals to carefully consider their reasons for the name change and to ensure that they meet all of the eligibility requirements before applying.
