Musqueam

The Musqueam Indian Band is one of the four founding members of the Musqueam Nation, located in Vancouver, British Columbia. They are a First Nations people whose traditional territory encompasses the land south of the Fraser River and the shores of the Burrard Inlet. The Musqueam have a rich history and cultural heritage that dates back thousands of years. Their ancestral lands are an important part of their identity and have been managed and stewarded by the community for generations.

The Musqueam Nation's governance is led by a Chief and Council, who are elected by the membership. The Band is actively involved in various economic development initiatives, as well as in protecting and promoting their cultural heritage. They are known for their traditional arts and crafts, including intricate carvings and weaving. The Musqueam have a deep connection to the land and sea, which has shaped their traditions, including their diet and spiritual practices. Their language, hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, is a vital part of their cultural continuity and efforts are underway to revitalize and preserve it. The Musqueam continue to be a vibrant and influential First Nation in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.
