Munizipale

Munizipale is a term used in South Tyrol, a province in northern Italy. In this region, munizipale refers to a level of government that is below the provincial level but above the comunità tole na (a form of local government) and commune (municipality).

At the munizipale level, there are 116 administrative districts, known as zugewiesene Gemeinde, which are groups of communes that are subject to a specific set of regulations and administrative procedures. However, these districts do not have the same level of autonomy as comunità tole na, as they are subject to the administration of the province and the Italian national government.

Each zugewiesene Gemeinde has its own administrative office, which is responsible for a range of tasks, including land use planning, environmental protection, and social services. The administrative office is headed by a so-called munizipal, who is appointed by the provincial government.

The munizipale level of government was established in the 1990s as part of an effort to decentralize administrative power and increase autonomy for local communities. The system was designed to allow for greater flexibility and decision-making power at the local level, while still ensuring that all residents of South Tyrol are subject to the same laws and regulations.

While the munizipale level of government is an important part of the administrative structure of South Tyrol, its role and responsibilities are not always clearly defined. Some critics argue that the system is too complex and bureaucratic, while others see it as an important step towards greater local autonomy and self-governance.
