MultisplitKlimasysteme, also known as multi-split air conditioning systems, are designed to provide both heating and cooling to multiple rooms from a single outdoor unit. This is achieved by connecting several indoor units to one external compressor and condenser. Each indoor unit can be controlled independently, allowing for customized temperature settings in different zones of a building. This flexibility makes multisplit systems a popular choice for both residential and commercial applications where individual room climate control is desired.

The core components of a multisplit system include one outdoor unit and two or more indoor units. The outdoor unit houses the compressor, condenser, and expansion valve, which are responsible for the refrigeration cycle. The indoor units, typically wall-mounted, ceiling cassettes, or ducted units, contain the evaporator and fan that distribute conditioned air into the room. Refrigerant lines connect the outdoor unit to each indoor unit, carrying the refrigerant that absorbs heat from the indoor air (during cooling) or releases heat into the indoor air (during heating).

Advantages of multisplit systems include energy efficiency, as they often consume less power than multiple individual split systems. Their ability to cool or heat diverse areas simultaneously, each to a different setpoint, enhances comfort and can reduce overall energy consumption compared to conditioning the entire building uniformly. Installation is also often more streamlined than installing multiple independent systems, requiring only one outdoor unit. However, the initial cost can be higher than single-split systems, and if the outdoor unit malfunctions, all connected indoor units will cease to operate. Maintenance typically involves servicing the single outdoor unit and each individual indoor unit.
