A multilinear function is a function that takes multiple vector arguments and, for each argument, is a linear transformation when the other arguments are considered constants. For example, a bilinear form is a function that takes two vectors and is linear in each component separately. This means that if f(v1, v2) is a bilinear form, then f(av1 + bv1', v2) = af(v1, v2) + bf(v1', v2) and f(v1, av2 + bv2') = af(v1, v2) + bf(v1, v2') for scalars a, b and vectors v1, v1', v2, v2'.

Multilinear functions play a crucial role in areas such as differential geometry, tensor calculus, and abstract algebra. They are used to define concepts like determinants, exterior products, and various types of curvature.
