Movile
Movile refers to Movile Cave (Peștera Movile), a limestone cave system in the Dobruja region of southeastern Romania, near the village of Movile and close to the Black Sea coast. It was discovered in 1986 by a team from the Romanian Academy during a geological survey in the area.
The cave is notable for its sunless, isolated ecosystem that relies on chemosynthesis rather than photosynthesis.
The subterranean ecosystem hosts a variety of troglobitic invertebrates, including crustaceans, arachnids, and insect larvae adapted
Movile has been a key case study in cave biology and the study of subsurface life, illustrating
Access to Movile Cave has been restricted or carefully controlled to protect its delicate ecosystem. After
