Mootoriblokki

Mootoriblokki, also known as an engine block or cylinder block, is the central component of an internal combustion engine. It forms the main structure that houses the cylinders, pistons, crankshaft, and other essential moving parts. The block is typically made of cast iron or aluminum alloys due to their strength and heat dissipation properties.

The cylinders are bored directly into the block, and they are where the combustion process takes place. Within each cylinder, pistons reciprocate, driven by the expanding gases from the fuel-air mixture. The crankshaft, located at the bottom of the block, converts the linear motion of the pistons into rotational motion, which is then transmitted to the drivetrain.

Mootoriblokki also contains passages for coolant to circulate and maintain the engine's operating temperature, as well as passages for lubricating oil to reach critical moving parts. The design and construction of the engine block significantly influence the engine's performance, efficiency, and durability. Variations exist based on the number and arrangement of cylinders (e.g., inline, V-configuration, flat), as well as the type of engine (e.g., gasoline, diesel).
