Mittaustyksiköiden is a Finnish term that translates to "units of measurement" in English. It refers to standardized quantities used to express the magnitude of physical properties. These units are essential for consistent and comparable measurements across different fields, scientific disciplines, and international trade.

The most widely adopted system of measurement is the International System of Units (SI), which is based on seven base units: the meter for length, the kilogram for mass, the second for time, the ampere for electric current, the kelvin for thermodynamic temperature, the mole for amount of substance, and the candela for luminous intensity. SI units are further organized into derived units, which are formed by combining base units. For example, the unit of force, the newton, is derived from mass, length, and time (kg⋅m/s²).

Historically, various systems of units existed, such as the imperial system (using feet, pounds, and seconds) and the metric system (which predates the SI but shares many of its principles). While the SI system is now dominant globally, some countries and industries still use other units.

The accurate and consistent use of measurement units is fundamental to scientific research, engineering, manufacturing, and everyday life.
