Micius, also known as SJ-10, was a Chinese quantum science satellite launched on August 10, 2016. Its primary mission was to conduct experiments in quantum communication and quantum entanglement over long distances. The satellite was named after the ancient Chinese philosopher Mozi, who lived in the 5th century BCE and is credited with early ideas related to optics and Mohist cosmology, which included concepts that some interpret as precursors to quantum mechanics.
