MgHPO4
Magnesium hydrogen phosphate, with the chemical formula MgHPO4, is an inorganic salt. It is also known as dimagnesium phosphate or magnesium phosphate monobasic. This compound exists in various hydrated forms, with the dihydrate (MgHPO4·2H2O) being a common one. MgHPO4 is a white crystalline solid that is sparingly soluble in water. It is an important compound in biological systems, where it plays a role in buffering and in the structure of bones and teeth, although it is typically found as a component of more complex calcium-magnesium phosphates in these tissues. In industrial applications, it can be used as a food additive for its buffering properties and as a component in fertilizers. It can be produced by the reaction of magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide with phosphoric acid.
