Metrologische is an adjective used in Dutch and German to describe matters pertaining to metrology, the science of measurement. Metrology encompasses the definition, physical realization, preservation, and dissemination of measurement standards and the evaluation of measurement results. It covers theoretical foundations such as units of measurement, measurement uncertainty, calibration, and traceability, as well as practical aspects like instrument design, testing, and quality control.

Central to metrology is the International System of Units (SI) and the guarantee that measurements are comparable across time and space. SI units are defined by fundamental constants and realized by national laboratories. Metrological traceability links a measurement result to the appropriate SI unit through an unbroken chain of calibrations and standards, typically maintained by national metrology institutes (NMIs) under oversight of the BIPM in Paris.

Institutions and standards: The BIPM coordinates international metrology; NMIs such as NIST (United States), PTB (Germany), LNE (France) or METAS (Switzerland) provide national calibration services. Standards organizations such as ISO and IEC develop general measurement and testing standards. Legal metrology covers measurements used in commerce, health, safety, and environmental regulation and is enforced by national authorities.

Applications of metrological practice include instrument calibration, uncertainty analysis, proficiency testing, and the certification of reference materials and measurement procedures. Metrological quality underpins scientific research, industrial production, healthcare, and environmental monitoring by ensuring accuracy, reliability, and comparability of measurements.
