Methanedominated
Methanedominated refers to environments or processes where methane (CH4) is the most abundant or significant carbon-bearing gas. These environments can be naturally occurring or anthropogenic. Natural methanedominated ecosystems include anaerobic zones within wetlands, swamps, marshes, and the digestive tracts of ruminant animals like cows. In these locations, microorganisms, primarily archaea known as methanogens, produce methane through a process called methanogenesis. This process occurs in the absence of oxygen.
