Merinid
The Merinids were a Berber dynasty that ruled Morocco from 1244 to 1465. They were the first Muslim dynasty to rule the Maghreb, the western part of North Africa. The Merinids were founded by Abu Yahya ibn Abd al-Haqq, a Berber leader from the tribe of Banu Merin. The dynasty was known for its military prowess and its ability to maintain control over a large territory. The Merinids were also known for their patronage of the arts and sciences. The Merinids reached the height of their power under Sultan Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Othman, who ruled from 1331 to 1348. The Merinids were overthrown by the Wattasids in 1465. The Merinids left a lasting legacy in Morocco, including the construction of many important buildings and the promotion of Berber culture.
