Membránions

Membránions are hypothetical elementary particles that are proposed to exist as excitations of a two-dimensional surface or membrane. The concept arises from theoretical physics, particularly in the context of string theory and related models that explore higher dimensions. In these frameworks, fundamental particles are not point-like but rather have extended structures, such as strings or membranes.

When a membrane vibrates or undergoes some form of excitation, these vibrations can be quantized, leading to the concept of membránions. These particles would carry energy and momentum, and their properties would be determined by the dynamics of the membrane itself. Unlike point particles, membránions would possess an internal structure, which could influence their interactions and decay modes.

The idea of membránions is still largely theoretical and has not been directly observed experimentally. Their existence would depend on the validity of the underlying theoretical models, such as M-theory, which suggests the existence of 11 dimensions and various extended objects including membranes. If confirmed, membránions could offer new insights into the fundamental nature of matter and the universe, potentially bridging gaps between different theories of physics.
