Melanotsyyttisolut
Melanotsyyttisolut are specialized cells found in the epidermis of the skin, the hair follicles, and the eyes. Their primary function is the production of melanin, a pigment responsible for skin, hair, and eye color. These cells are also crucial for protecting the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Melanotsyyttisolut synthesize melanin within organelles called melanosomes. Once produced, melanosomes are transferred to surrounding keratinocytes, the main cells of the epidermis. This transfer helps to shield the DNA of keratinocytes from UV-induced damage. The distribution and amount of melanin produced by melanotsyyttisolut determine the variations in skin and hair color observed among different individuals and populations. Conditions such as vitiligo, albinism, and melanoma are associated with abnormalities in melanotsyyttisolut function or number.
