Megrez

Megrez, designated Delta Ursae Majoris, is a star in the constellation Ursa Major. It is part of the Big Dipper, the well-known seven-star asterism also called the Plough, and sits at the junction between the bowl and the handle.

With an apparent magnitude of about 3.3, Megrez is visible to the naked eye under typical observing conditions. It lies at an approximate distance of 80 light-years (roughly 25 parsecs) from Earth.

In star catalogs, Megrez is listed as Delta Ursae Majoris. Within the Big Dipper asterism, it is the star that connects the bowl to the handle, helping to define the overall shape used by observers to identify the dipper in the night sky.
