Marianergropen
Marianergropen, also known as the Mariana Trench, is the deepest oceanic trench on Earth. It is located in the western Pacific Ocean, about 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) east of the Mariana Islands. The trench measures approximately 2,550 kilometers (1,580 miles) long and 69 kilometers (43 miles) wide. Its deepest point is the Challenger Deep, located at the southern end of the trench, which reaches an estimated depth of 10,984 meters (36,037 feet).
The Marianergropen was formed by the process of subduction, where one tectonic plate slides beneath another.
The first manned descent to the Challenger Deep was made in 1960 by Jacques Piccard and Don
