MariaNORTH

MariaNORTH is a bicycle-sharing system that was launched in several cities including Barcelona, ​​Spain, in 2015. The system, which is an upgrade to the previous Bicing service, allows users to rent bicycles for short periods. The service is owned and operated by the city's municipal government.

The MariaNORTH system operates 1,203 stations that provide 6,000 bicycles, allowing users to cycle through numerous areas of the city. Users can rent a bicycle by renting it at a designated station, using a dedicated app, and then returning it to any other station within the network. Fares for MariaNORTH are pay-per-use and day passes are also available. The service focuses on providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation option, reducing the need for private car transportation within the city.

MariaNORTH is widely seen as a transport policy objective of Barcelona's, as the city looks to reduce its carbon footprint and promote more efficient use of urban space. When first launched, MariaNORTH contained 100 service points, which allowed users to extend a limited number of addresses where a bicycle could be rented and returned, could make journeys with the northwest purpose.
