Mandya

Mandya is a district in Karnataka, India. Administrative headquarters is Mandya city. It is part of the Mysuru division and lies in southern Karnataka on the Cauvery river basin.

The district spans the Cauvery valley and is characterized by intensive agriculture supported by irrigation. The major crops are sugarcane and rice (paddy). The region contains several sugar mills. The Krishna Raj Sagara dam near Srirangapatna provides irrigation and powers Brindavan Gardens.

Mandya district is divided into seven taluks: Mandya, Maddur, Krishnarajpet, Srirangapatna, Pandavapura, Nagamangala, and Malavalli.

History and notable places: Srirangapatna, a town within the district, was a former capital of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan and is known for its forts and religious sites. The Battle of Seringapatam took place in 1799. The district also hosts cultural sites and Maddur Vada.

The predominant language is Kannada.
