Mamiliano

Mamiliano is a small municipality in Verdaria, a temperate, hilly region known for its agricultural traditions. The town's compact core preserves medieval street patterns and a parish church that dates to the 12th century.

Covering 18.4 square kilometers, Mamiliano lies in a valley at 180–420 meters above sea level, with a mild climate and a short, dry summer.

First mentioned in 1152 as Mamilius, the town formed around a feudal manor. It passed to regional authorities in later centuries and joined the Verdarian state after unification.

As of 2021, the population is about 2,100. The economy relies on olive oil and wine production, complemented by small manufacturing, artisanal crafts, and rural tourism.

Civic life centers on the Festa di Primavera, and the town hosts a Romanesque parish church and a preserved medieval gate that attract visitors.

The name Mamiliano is believed to derive from the Latin personal name Mamilius, later adapted in the local dialect.
