Makah
The Makah are a Native American people of the Pacific Northwest, primarily inhabiting the northwestern tip of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. Their ancestral lands include the westernmost portion of the Olympic National Park and the Makah Indian Reservation. The Makah language is part of the Wakashan language family, and while it is considered endangered, efforts are underway to revitalize it. Historically, the Makah were renowned seafarers and whalers, relying heavily on the ocean for sustenance. Their traditional diet included whales, seals, sea lions, fish, and various marine invertebrates. They were also skilled woodworkers, crafting intricate canoes, totem poles, and other artifacts.
The Makah have a rich cultural heritage that includes complex social structures, spiritual beliefs, and artistic
