Maack
Maack may refer to several things. In ornithology, Maack's or Maack's nightingale is a species of passerine bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is found in China and Russia. Another notable use of Maack is in geography, specifically the Amur River, which was historically known as the Amur-Maack or the Maack River in some contexts, named after Russian explorer Grigory Maack. Grigory Maack was a Russian explorer and geographer who made significant contributions to the mapping and understanding of the Russian Far East in the 19th century. He explored the Ussuri region and the Amur River basin, leading expeditions that documented the geography, flora, and fauna of the area. His work was instrumental in expanding geographical knowledge of Siberia and the Pacific coast of Russia. The genus of plants Maackia, belonging to the family Fabaceae, is also named in his honor.
