MEMSkiirendusmõõtja

MEMSkiirendusmõõtja is an Estonian term that translates to "MEMS accelerometer". MEMS stands for Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems. MEMS accelerometers are miniature devices that measure acceleration. They work by detecting changes in capacitance or resistance as an internal proof mass moves in response to applied forces, including acceleration.

These sensors are widely used in various applications due to their small size, low power consumption, and cost-effectiveness. Common uses include smartphones for detecting screen orientation and motion sensing, automotive systems for airbag deployment and stability control, and industrial equipment for vibration monitoring. They are also found in consumer electronics like gaming controllers and wearable devices.

MEMS accelerometers are typically fabricated using semiconductor manufacturing techniques. They consist of a suspended proof mass, which is a small, movable component, attached to a frame. When the device is accelerated, the proof mass shifts relative to the frame. This displacement is then converted into an electrical signal that can be read and interpreted. Different types of MEMS accelerometers exist, including capacitive, piezoresistive, and piezoelectric, each utilizing different principles to detect motion. The accuracy and sensitivity of a MEMS accelerometer depend on its design and manufacturing.
