MCM22

MCM22 is a protein that plays a crucial role in DNA replication in eukaryotic cells. It is part of the mini-chromosome maintenance (MCM) complex, which is a key component of the pre-replication complex (pre-RC). The MCM complex functions as a replicative helicase, responsible for unwinding the DNA double helix to allow for the replication machinery to access the template strands.

Specifically, MCM22, also known as MCM6, is one of the six subunits that make up the hexameric MCM complex. The MCM complex is recruited to origins of replication during the G1 phase of the cell cycle and becomes activated in the S phase, initiating DNA synthesis. The proper assembly and function of the MCM complex are essential for maintaining genomic stability and preventing uncontrolled cell proliferation.

Mutations or dysregulation of MCM22 and other MCM proteins have been linked to various human diseases, including cancer and developmental disorders.
