Lõppesmärgid refers to the Finnish term for terminal marks or final punctuation marks. In written Finnish, these primarily consist of the period (.), question mark (?), and exclamation mark (!). These punctuation marks serve to signal the end of a sentence or a complete thought, guiding the reader's understanding of the text's structure and intended meaning.

The period is the most common lõppesmärk and is used to denote the end of a declarative or imperative sentence. It signifies a full stop, indicating a complete statement or command. For example, "Aurinko paistaa." (The sun is shining.) or "Sulje ovi." (Close the door.) both end with a period.

The question mark is employed at the end of interrogative sentences, indicating that the sentence is a question seeking information. For instance, "Mitä kuuluu?" (How are you?) or "Oletko valmis?" (Are you ready?) would both conclude with a question mark.

The exclamation mark is used to convey strong emotion, emphasis, or surprise within a sentence. It can also be used to mark exclamatory sentences. Examples include "Apua!" (Help!) or "Se oli uskomatonta!" (That was incredible!). While less frequent than periods, exclamation marks are crucial for conveying the tone and emotional weight of written communication.
