Lungmay

Lungmay, also known as Lungmay Island, is a small, uninhabited island located in the South China Sea, approximately 100 kilometers southeast of the Philippines' main island of Luzon. The island is part of the Spratly Islands, a group of more than 100 islands and reefs that are the subject of a long-standing territorial dispute between the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Lungmay Island is one of the larger islands in the Spratly group, with an area of about 1.5 square kilometers.

The island is primarily composed of limestone and is characterized by its flat terrain and dense vegetation. It is known for its rich biodiversity, including various species of birds, reptiles, and marine life. The island's waters are also home to a variety of coral reefs and fish species.

Lungmay Island has been the subject of territorial claims by several countries. The Philippines, which has administered the island since 1978, claims it as part of its territory. China, on the other hand, has constructed a series of artificial islands and structures on the reefs surrounding Lungmay, which it claims as part of its "Nine-Dash Line." Taiwan and Vietnam also have overlapping claims over the Spratly Islands, including Lungmay Island.

The dispute over Lungmay Island, like other Spratly Islands, has led to tensions and occasional military confrontations between the claimant countries. The United Nations has not recognized any of the claims, and the issue remains unresolved. The island's strategic location in the South China Sea makes it an important area for both military and economic interests.
