Luftschadstoffe
Luftschadstoffe, or air pollutants, are substances released into the atmosphere that pose risks to human health, ecosystems, or the environment. Common categories include gaseous pollutants such as sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs); and particulate matter (PM), including fine particles (PM2.5) and coarse particles (PM10). Sources of these pollutants range from industrial activities (e.g., power plants, factories), transportation (vehicles, aircraft), agricultural practices (fertilizers, livestock), and residential heating. Exposure to air pollutants can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, while long-term exposure may contribute to climate change, acid rain, and smog formation. Regulatory measures, technological advancements (e.g., scrubbers, catalytic converters), and public awareness campaigns are key strategies for reducing air pollution levels and mitigating its impacts.
