Loppulaskun

Loppulasku is the final invoice issued after a project, delivery, or service has been completed. It serves to settle the remaining balance and typically reconciles all charges, adjustments, discounts, and taxes with the work performed. The term loppulaskun is the genitive form used in Finnish phrases such as sending the final invoice or reviewing the final bill. It is used in both business-to-business and consumer contexts where a contract or agreement has a closing stage.

A loppulasku usually follows any interim invoices and references the contractual terms, order, or milestones. It includes an itemized description of goods or services, quantities, unit prices, subtotals, and any credits or discounts. The document shows applicable value added tax (if registered), the total amount due, payment terms, due date, and identifying information such as the invoice number, date, seller and buyer details, and contract reference.

In practice, the final invoicing process may involve adjustments for changes in scope, late deliveries, returns, or agreed credits. A related document, such as a credit note, can accompany or follow the loppulasku if needed. Clear documentation helps prevent disputes about scope, pricing, or timing and supports timely payment.

Legally and practically, invoicing in Finland is governed by tax and accounting rules. Invoices typically must include the seller’s business identification (Y-tunnus) and VAT number if applicable, as well as information about the buyer, a description of the goods or services, net amount, VAT rate and amount, and the total due. Invoices may be issued electronically, including as e-invoices (PEPPOL). Invoices and related records should be retained for the period required by Finnish accounting and tax regulations.
