Lämpölevyventtiili, also known as a heat plate valve or thermal expansion valve in English, is a component used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Its primary function is to regulate the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. This regulation is crucial for maintaining optimal system efficiency and preventing damage.

The operation of a lämpölevyventtiili is based on the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant. It typically consists of a body, a sensing bulb, and a needle or diaphragm mechanism. The sensing bulb is strategically placed on the suction line of the evaporator to measure the superheat of the refrigerant vapor leaving the evaporator.

When the superheat increases, indicating that the evaporator is not receiving enough refrigerant, the sensing bulb detects this change. This causes a pressure increase within the bulb, which in turn actuates the valve mechanism. The mechanism opens further, allowing more liquid refrigerant to flow into the evaporator. Conversely, if the superheat decreases, meaning too much refrigerant is entering the evaporator, the valve closes down, restricting the flow.

This continuous adjustment ensures that the evaporator is always filled with the correct amount of refrigerant, maximizing heat absorption from the cooled space and preventing liquid refrigerant from returning to the compressor, which could cause damage.
